Straight answers about who I am, how the planning works, and what the app does. If it is about the app itself (prices, documents, emails), the app has its own FAQ: app.triphappenstravel.com/faq.
About Trip Happens
Who is behind Trip Happens?
Me, Lisa Roehrs. Thirty years in corporate travel: VIP travel for UPS, the global meetings program for The Nature Conservancy across more than seventy countries, executive travel for Coca-Cola and Tyler Perry Studios, and large-group logistics for MrBeast’s TV productions. Now I plan trips for real clients as a Fora Travel Advisor, and I built the TripHappens app. The long version is on My Story.
Is this a travel agency?
Part of it is. Through Fora I plan and book trips for paying clients, with the hotel perks a real agency gets. The rest is the blog, the gear picks, the retreat planning for teams, and the app. Same eye for detail across all of it.
Are the reviews and picks sponsored?
No. If I recommend something, I have used it. If it let me down, I say so. Some links are affiliate links, which means a retailer may pay me a small commission if you buy; it never changes what you pay, and it never changes what I recommend. The full disclosure is on the Affiliate Disclosure page.
How do I reach you?
hello@triphappenstravel.com, or the Let’s Talk page. I read everything myself and reply within two working days.
Trip planning with Lisa
What does it cost to have you plan my trip?
Nothing, for most trips. Fora’s advisors are paid by the hotels and suppliers, so the planning is free to you and you still pay the same rate you would pay booking direct, often with perks on top: breakfast, upgrades when available, hotel credit, early check-in.
What can you book?
Hotels and resorts, with the partner programs the big agencies use (Virtuoso, Four Seasons Preferred Partner, Hyatt Privé, Marriott STARS and more), plus tours, transfers, cruises and travel insurance. Flights I can advise on and book where it makes sense.
How far ahead should I get in touch?
For a hotel stay, a few weeks is fine. For a honeymoon, a milestone trip or anything in high season, three to six months gives you the best rooms and the best rates. For a team retreat, six months. If you are late, ask anyway; I have fixed plenty of trips in a week.
Do you recommend travel insurance?
For every international trip, yes. Most US health plans stop at the border. Look for medical evacuation cover first; the cancellation part is the easy bit. The app checks whether you have a policy and reminds you before the pre-existing-condition window closes.
Teams and retreats
What is a Stack Check?
A free 30-minute call that walks your team’s travel stack end to end: booking, approvals, documents, duty of care. I tell you where it leaks and what I would change. It is useful whether or not you buy anything from me, which is rather the point. Book it from The Distributed Team Stack page.
Do you plan company retreats?
Yes, end to end: venue sourcing, group logistics, the schedule, the on-site running. Thirty years of group travel, for teams that meet in person. Start on the Retreat Planning page.
Is there a team version of the app?
Coming January 2027. Every traveler gets the app’s Traveler Annual, and you get one screen: who’s abroad, their readiness score, whose passport is about to fail, and the advisory level where they’re going. Flags only, never the documents. Join the list on the For Teams page and the founding price of $69 a seat a year is held for you in writing; it is $108 after launch.
The app
What is the TripHappens app?
A trip-readiness checklist and a score for your trip. Type where you’re going and it builds the checklist: packing for the forecast, entry rules for your passport, advisories, money, plugs, local quirks. Add your flights and passport and it gives the trip a TripHappens Score with the fixes, ranked, and the dates to do them by. It works in your browser and installs like an app, with nothing to download from a store. Start a trip, free.
Is it free?
The checklist, the Score and the Trip Kit are free: every concern named with its date and how much it matters, and the fixes that would stop you boarding shown in full. A Trip Pass ($12 during the founding period, $19 after) turns on the Watch for one trip and opens every other fix, the dated Flight Plan, the offline pack and the cloud document vault. Traveling with someone, the trip becomes a Family Pass ($24 founding, $39 after). Traveler Annual is $29 a year during founding, $49 after. The app’s FAQ has the detail.
What is the Trip Kit?
The Kit tab in the app’s bottom menu: the small stuff, at a glance. It holds three cards that are free for everyone (your fare’s baggage allowance, a confidence grade for every connection, and the emergency card with the numbers to call) plus any checklist card you add with “Add to Trip Kit”: local quirks, money and getting around, whatever you want in front of you in the taxi queue. It is saved on your device, so it opens with no signal. Anything with your personal details on it (passport scans, vaccine records, booking confirmations) lives in the Vault tab instead, and stays on your device unless you back a file up yourself.
Where does my passport information go?
Nowhere. Passport dates, the names on your tickets, medication and accessibility notes stay on your own device. They are not sent to the app’s servers, not synced to your account, and not shown to the AI feature. The app’s privacy policy spells it out.
Something in the app is wrong. Who do I tell?
Me. hello@triphappenstravel.com with the destination and what you saw. Entry rules and advisories come from official sources and the app links to them rather than copying them, so if a rule has changed, the link is still right and I will fix the summary.
The blog and the picks
Where is the packing list?
The free carry-on packing list is on the Packing List page, and the app builds a trip-specific one from the forecast, your activities and your plans.
How do you choose what to recommend?
I use it on a real trip first. Gear has to survive cobbles, a long museum day and a 7 kg carry-on limit. Hotels have to be places I would send a client. If something is on the site, it earned the spot.
