Privacy Policy

Trip Happens (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates triphappens.travel. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, the third-party services we rely on, and your rights.

What we collect

  • Your email address — only if you choose to subscribe to our newsletter or submit our contact form
  • Your name — only if you submit our contact form or book a trip-planning intake call
  • Anonymous usage data — pages visited, device type, country, referring site, time on page. Collected via analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics or Plausible) to help us understand which content is useful
  • Cookies — small files saved to your browser that help the site function and that some affiliate links use to credit purchases to Trip Happens

We do not collect payment information. Every purchase that begins on Trip Happens completes on a third-party site (Amazon, hotel booking platforms, tour operators, etc.) and is handled by them.

How we use what we collect

  • Newsletter signups receive periodic emails from Trip Happens — travel tips, gear recommendations, and the occasional update
  • Contact form and intake-call submissions are used to reply to your enquiry and, where relevant, plan your trip
  • Analytics data helps us understand what content is useful and what isn’t
  • We never sell your data to anyone, ever

Affiliate cookies, explained

When you click an affiliate link on Trip Happens, the destination site (e.g., Amazon, a hotel booking platform) may set a cookie that tracks whether you make a purchase, so they can credit Trip Happens a small commission if you do. This is industry-standard and never increases what you pay. You can disable cookies in your browser settings — the site will still work, you’ll just see fewer personalised ads on other sites.

See our Affiliate Disclosure for the full picture of how Trip Happens earns money.

Third-party services we use

The following services may receive limited data when you use this site:

  • Netlify — hosts the website and collects server logs
  • Google Analytics (or equivalent) — anonymous usage statistics
  • Newsletter provider (e.g., MailerLite, Mailchimp, ConvertKit) — stores your email if you subscribe
  • Beacons.ai — link-in-bio platform; tracks clicks on shop links
  • Amazon Associates — tracks purchases originating from Trip Happens affiliate links
  • Fora Travel — handles trip-planning communications and bookings when you choose to work with Lisa as your travel advisor
  • Instagram, TikTok, Facebook — when you click through to our social profiles

Each of these services has its own privacy policy that governs how it uses any data it receives.

Your rights

  • You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time — every email has an unsubscribe link in the footer
  • You can request a copy of any data we hold on you by emailing hello@triphappens.travel
  • You can ask us to delete your data at any time, for any reason, by emailing the same address. We will confirm within 30 days
  • If you are based in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA — all honoured

The short version

We collect what we need to run the site, nothing more. We never sell your data. You can leave at any time, take your data with you, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@triphappens.travel for anything privacy-related and a real human will reply.

Children

Trip Happens is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, email hello@triphappens.travel and we will delete it immediately.

If this policy changes

Any updates will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the next newsletter so you have a chance to opt out before they take effect.
